Does cool water swimming pique your child's interest for swimming lessons?

Updated: Apr 19, 2025

"You will warm up.. just keep moving.. 10 minutes left" .. these are the words that children so often hear when they are just too cold to thoroughly enjoy swimming, all the while, mom and dad are paying for a swimming lesson. While I keep the temperature at 77-82 degrees, every human body is different and every day is different, as well. Petit children tend to get a chill quicker than non-petit children, for an example, because of their size. I was 95 pounds for most of my young life (including my first year of high school!), and I was always swimming. It is true then, that I can relate to the feeling of chill in the water, as a young person. Even now, when I teach swimming lessons in the gorgeous summer months, I am not always susceptible to the water temperature, especially when the 7 hour mark comes up. Another factor of internal warmth in the water, is the temperature of the outdoor air.. Wether it be shady, windy, or cool that day, these all contribute to the feeling of being cold in the water.
