FAQ
Here are some frequently asked questions. Please review and reach out with any other questions that may come to mind, or for any clarification on the current FAQ's.
What qualifies your lesson prices?
Our prices are less than that of the big swim companies and we do also employ swim instructors who have a greater amount of qualifications than of the average swim school. In terms of our lower prices, we are able to do this because we are not paying to rent an indoor swim space, instead, we offer lessons out of my mother's pool. In conclusion, we offer a beautiful outdoor learning space and small lessons sizes, with respectable prices.
How many students per class?
Class sized vary between 1 student, 2 students and 3 student (maximum). Each class has one instructor and on occasion a second instructor may assist as well.
How do you provide quality-focused lessons?
Samantha's Learn to Swim is a space of exceptionality. It caters to swimmers of many abilities (including those on the Autism spectrum). Additionally, we have been running lessons for a century now, which have been mostly accredited to repetitive clients and word-of-mouth. *Feel free to peak into our client testimonies. All swim instructors are licensed with the National Lifesaving Society Board, and have been certified up to National Swim Instructor (including Standard First Aid). They also have several years of experience as a swim instructor, and have taught adults, big classes, private classes and children who have autism.
What target group is your preferred swim group, in terms of expertise?
Samantha, Evelyn and Rastin will be serving our swimmers this summer, and each instructor has their own niche. Samantha is the senior instructor and has experience working with all swimmers, although she excels in working with children under the age of 15, as well as individuals who a have a diagnosis of autism. Evelyn has positive experience working with adults, including teaching adult group classes. Additionally, she has a passion and experience working with children who have autism and is able to assist to support these individuals . Rastin is our one male instructor and works well with child small groups lesson (3:1 lessons). He is organized and gentle-assertive with his students.
Can I pair my ≤24 month year old with my older child, for a semi-private lesson?
Swim levels are orchestrated to produce promising results to swimmers who are parallel in ability or age. With that said, it you believe that the lessons would run well with two siblings together, then we will accommodate. Other wise, we suggest two separate private lessons, or individual enrolment in a group lesson, that adheres to each swimmers age and ability.
What is the missed-class policy?
Each lesson session comes with its own "credit" where you can reschedule with out hassle, and this requires no notice. This includes a sick day. After the credit is used, the full fee will be applied to missed lessons. If you don't use the credit at the end of the summer, you will be given a 25% discount to use for private or semi private lessons, for the last week of summer session (August 25-30) *Group lessons and lesson sets are excluded from this disount offer.
Cancellation due to inclement is made through the discretion of SLS. These classes will be made up, where the schedule allows. The last week in August (August 25-30) is the typical time period for make-up classes.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) welcome!
While this is not a question, I wanted to take this space to share this important news; Samantha's Learn to Swim (SLS) is a devoted space for children who have a diagnosis of ASD. In 2023 we partnered Growing Growth Autism Services to provide free lessons for their clients, and in 2024, we partnered with Centre for Dreams to raise money for their organization. Samantha also has a solid knowledge base and related experience in the ASD community; she has spent many years volunteering and working in the field, and is currently a behavioural therapist, during the school year.
Samantha offers a high standard of learning and guidance to peoples with ASD, in the pool.
Do you provide swimming feedback to swimmers and parents/carers?
We honour each student with a beautiful progress report in the middle and in the end of their swim program. Every swimmer will also receive a certificate with their name printed on it, for their hard work and participation, regardless if they passed or not.
What is your standard of safety?
Safety is important to our team and is a big part of our lesson care. In fact, this is one of the main reasons why our classes are small in size. To us, one adult to three children in the pool is the optimal ratio of child to adult, in order to ensure a responsible level of safety for each swimmer. We are also affiliated with the National Drowning Prevention Alliance and familiar with the knowledge, insights, and practical resources, they provide, on maintaining safety in and around the water
